Finnish Independence: Art and Music

On November 4th, 2017 at 2:00 pm Suomi-Koti celebrates Finnish art and music. Art, literature and music were all important for helping to create the atmosphere for Finnish independence. They spoke about Finnish people’s feelings and bonded them together. Come listen Prof. Heidi Ahonen’s lecture and learn more about this important time in Finnish history. No entrance fee.

Celebration of Johan Ludvig Runeberg

January 21, 2017 – Place: B2 Auditorium Time: 3 pm
On January 21st 2017 starting at 3pm, Suomi-Koti will celebrate the life of Finnish national poet Johan Ludvig Runeberg (Feb 5,1804- May 6, 1877). We will launch the Finland 100- years and Suomi-Koti 30-years celebrations by learning to sing the Finnish National Anthem. During the break the special Runeberg’s pastries will be served. All are welcome! No entrance fees.

Kalevala-Day Celebration

On February 26th Suomi-Koti celebrates Finnish National Epos, Kalevala. All are welcome to learn more about our national costumes, folk dancing, and kantele-playing. No entrance fees.

On March 25 2017 Suomi-Koti celebrates Karelian traditions, Karelian songs and traditional food. All are welcome to learn more and discovering how to bake Finnish goodies! No entrance fee.
